PROF. (MRS.) OMOSEWO, ESTHER ORE
The First female Professor of Physics Education in Nigeria, Prof. (Mrs.) Omosewo, Esther Ore of the Department of Science Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria was born on the 21st of February 1953.
Mrs. Omosewo is an experienced Professor with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry; skilled in Science Education, Strategic Planning and Lecturing. Strong education professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) focused in Physics Education, Education Science from University of Ilorin. She is the current Director, Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) and the Managing Editor, Journal of Curriculum and Instruction, Department of Science Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, from August 2007 to date.
She started her elementary education at the Christ Anglican Primary School and obtained Primary School Leaving Certificate (PSLC) in 1965. She attended Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin, Nigeria got her Secondary School Certificate (WASC) in 1970. She proceeded to the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Nigeria where she acquired Nigerian Certificate in Education (Physics/Chemistry) in June 1979. Prof. (Mrs.) Omosewo attended where she bagged Bachelor of Science Education in Physics, Master in Science Education and Doctor of Philosophy in Physics Education in 1984, 1988 and 1991 respectively from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
Prof. (Mrs.) Omosewo’s honours and Membership of Learned Societies and Professional Bodies include but not limited to Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration since September, 2010; Advisory member, Institute of Policy Management Development (IPMD), August 2016; Member, Board of Studies in Physics, Kwara State Ministry of Education since 1989; Member, Textbook writers for Kwara State Government. 1992 to date; Member, Science Teachers’ Association of Nigeria, MSTAN from 1987 to date; Chieftaincy title of Yeye-oba of Ijan-otun since December 24th1995 among others.
She has supervised Undergraduates, Masters and PhD students in her discipline. Professor Omosewo have published over 44 books of international standards on science education and physics.
Professor Omosewo’s research focuses on Post-Lab Discussion on Students’ Achievement in Physics; Relevance of Physics Education Programmes of Higher Institutions in Nigeria to the teaching of Physics at S.S. Level; Teachers’ Implementation of the Practical Component of Senior Secondary Physics Curriculum Science Laboratory management; Management of Physics Education in Nigerian Secondary Schools and Teacher Education and National development among others. Her ongoing research focuses on Evaluation of Senior Secondary Schools Physics Textbooks and a Survey of Difficult S.S. Physics concept in Kwara State.
Her Extra Curricular Activities include Religious activities, Cooking and Caring for the needy.
Prof. (Mrs.) Omosewo is happily married and blessed with children and grandchildren.
